Lars-Christian in WP HoodieGeek is the new cool. Or in my case, cool is the new geek! When I saw the link to this WordPress Hoodie on my WordPress dashboard, I knew I had to get one. After all, I am a sucker for a nice hoodie, seeing how nothing beats one when you feel like going casual, or when going to the gym, (football) practice or similar.

So I just thought I’d share a couple of pictures of what it looks like on someone who’s not a professionally styled and photographed model!

I hope you can excuse the low quality. I simply used my iSight to capture the shots. The hoodie has a nice fit, and is quite thin in the fabric, which can be both a good and a bad thing. I like it when I go running though. Now I am officially a geek and a WordPress fan :)

In other WordPress news, I’ll be upgrading the blog and my other installations of WordPress tonight. I am also working on the design for a new project of mine, which I hope to reveal some more details about in the not too distant future. Stay tuned!

The Dark Knight is officially a box office hit.

Heath Ledger - The Joker

Breaking news from Hollywood is that Heath Ledger, actor famous from his role in Brokeback Mountain and many others, has been found dead in his appartment. Another tragic incident where the pressure of public expectation seems to have driven one more into the unknown.

Right now as a reader of my blog you are probably wondering why I am mentioning this, as it is highly irrelevant to the topics of which I normally focus on. The answer is twofold. First of all I really liked Ledger as an actor. He gave us some excellent performances in movies such as The Patriot, The Four Feathers and others.

But as the headline says, this really is about his latest work, the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight. I have previously explored some marketing techniques used in promoting The Dark Knight, and I simply wanted to point out how unforeseen things like these can affect our work.

Now if it was up to me, this movie would be pulled out of respect for Ledger and his close ones. Unfortunately, and this is the flipside of capitalism, we live in a world ruled by money, and that is unlikely to be the case. The most likely scenario is that this movie will be remembered as the last performance of someone who was dragged out of our world well before his time. Due to the nature of Ledger’s role, I won’t be surprised if this movie in a couple of years stands as somewhat of a cult symbol in rememberance of him.

I for one will still go see the movie, most likely with many others who never actually planned to. And I also still look forward to seeing Ledger’s intepretation of The Joker. I’m still convinced it will be awesome, and knowing myself, I will probably remember it just that much better because of what happened today.

In closing I would just like to extend my condolences to all of those who knew and cared about Heath Ledger. I didn’t, but he did seem like a great guy from what I could tell. Rest in peace.

Whip out the tools and get back to work!

ToolAs some of you might have noticed, we just made the leap into a brand new year, and what better time could there be to grab a clean state and give yourself a fresh start? For me (especially after the long, undesired break) it seems like the perfect chance to reach out and try and grab some of the many opportunities the internet still holds.

Before we jump right in though, it is always a good idea to use some of that 20 - 20 hindsight we’ve been given, and analyze what’s been accomplished in the year gone by. See what you did that worked, and I’m not just talking about the things that made you money. What did you like doing? Did you gain valuable new connections, associates and perhaps even a friend or two?

For me when I look back at my online achievements in 2007, the most obvious thing that comes to mind is what I did with Bloggst. I managed to create a brand new website from scratch, and sell it for $3,000 in the span of three months. I’m quite happy with that, as I started with pretty much nothing (in online terms) last year, and ended with a nice chunk of change, and made some excellent new connections during that period as well.

But then there’s the negatives. What did I accomplish for the remaining three quarters of the year? Pretty much nothing. I made some sporadic attempts to create a bit of buzz around this blog, but all in all I was content sitting on my pedestal wasting the fruits of my labours. I made no attempt to ride the wave of success, and benefit from what I had already achieved. After all, success breeds success, or at least if you take effort to make sure it does.

With this in mind, my goals for 2008 appear to be pretty obvious. I want to create a stronger and more visible online presence through constant participation in various communities, including those that surround this very blog. It will be important to me to reach out to other like-minded people, because nothing serves better as motivation in the times when the going gets tough, to put it like that.

Apart from this, I also want to start at least two new specific projects. The goals with these will not be to raise them as high as possible in a short span of time in order to cash in, but rather they will serve as monuments of my committment to online opportunities. Hopefully, they can also help me further my name, and if I am able to make a profit, I won’t refuse that opportunity.

I have also decided that it might be beneficial to me to team up with someone, so at least one of the projects will be more of a group effort as opposed to the one man shows I have stuck to in the past. Of course, that depends on me being able to find someone I want to work with, and that person being interested in working with me as well as the ideas I already have in mind. Interested? Let me know.

Now you have some insight about what I am up to, and how I perceive the year gone by in terms of my own online efforts. Have you made any similar reflections yourself? Perhaps you have even more concrete goals for this year than I do? If so, feel free to share them with the rest of us by leaving a response!

PS: I know this post is filled with typos, but I cut my pointer finger and have it bandaged, which makes is a bit hard to type. I was also suffering from a serious case of writers block when I wrote this post, and it seemed more important to just get a post together than worry about the details. I’ll edit it as soon as possible, promise!

Question MarkAnd when it stops and the sun shines again, all you have to do is get yourself cleaned up and get back on the horse! Hope you liked my little metaphor, I spent a couple of days thinking it out. Anyways, I know you’ve all been wondering where I’ve been and what’s been going on with me.

After my last post about how I was disconnected, things really just took a turn for the worse. I’m not going to discuss it all in public, but to make a long story short, I have moved and I now live in a new appartment. The move was not related to the lack of a functioning internet connection, but the fact that I’ve just moved in with my girlfriend.

As I’ve discovered, a new place doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re instantly reconnected, but I am finally back online, and it feels great. I have finished going through all my emails, and I should be responding to most of it by tomorrow. If you don’t get a response, please email me again, as somebody has taken the time to sign me up to some pretty aggressive spam lists, and I might have accidentally deleted some good mails out of the thousands I went through.

That’s about it. “Normal” posting will resume this week, and hopefully there are still somebody out there who’ll be checking up on the blog. I had a nice momentum going just before the crap hit the fan, and it would be a shame to have to start again from scratch! I also have immedient plans to get some new projects rolling, and if you want to see what I’m up to, just be sure to stay tuned.
