Public bathhouses
Bookmarked Communal Luxury: The Public Bathhouse by Kris De Decker.
Advocating for the return of the preindustrial public bathhouse, which centers around social interaction and communal luxury, may be more successful in luring people away from their private bathrooms
I concur. And, what's more, I thoroughly enjoyed this trip through the history of bathhouses.
For the first half, I found myself asking what happened, that we went from these amazing places luxury and socialising to the sterile, yet somehow always dirty, shower cubicles that are the only kind of public bathhouse I've experienced in my lifetime. No surprise that the transition happened in the name of efficiency (and, ultimately, class segregation) in the sweep of the industrial revolution.
