#Netcomfail

After finally being able to install the new OS 3.0 on my iPhone, one of the most exciting things for me was finally being able to use my iPhone for tethering. That is, using my iPhone to connect my Macbook to the internet via its 3G connection. This looked a good deal for me, as I never use up all my monthly megabytes of 3G usage.

Unfortunately my carrier, Netcom, has decided that they won’t allow this. In fact they only allow you to connect your laptop through the 3G network by using a modem with a separate subscription, or if you use a Windows Mobile phone. Go figure.

It’s not as if I would actually use this option a whole lot as I usually have wireless access, or just use my iPhone for what I need to do online. But on the odd occasion that I feel the need, it would be nice to have the option. Now I am definitely switching to a different carrier once my term with Netcom runs out, as other carriers are indeed willing to let us decide how we spend the traffic that we pay for. #Netcomfail indeed.
