This caricature-craze has got to stop!

So I’m sitting here peacefully reading the latest news from abroad, when I suddenly see the new headline in Norway’s biggest newspaper, VG, and all of a sudden I don’t feel so peaceful anymore, but rather somewhat aggrivated. For those of you who don’t read Norwegian, I’ll give you the outline: Twelve men recently showed up at the school of the daughter to one of those responsible for the printing of the Muhammed caricatures in Denmark.

I really just have one thing to say about this whole ordeal: it has got to stop. I don’t intend to take any sides in this controversy, because I think both sides have overstepped the borders here. First and foremost, I think it was simply silly to publish the carricatures in the first place. I mean, what’s the point? I feel it was just done in an attempt to create silly, needless controversy by putting two different culutures up against eachother. And then there’s the other side, the muslim radical leaders who have overreacted to enormous proportions. It seems as if they were simply looking for the right opportunity to create a massive movement in order to stir up the hate amongst muslims.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for free speach. It just seems so pointless beyond belief to do something that you know will create trouble, only to prove a point. In my opinion the only ones who have profited from this whole affliction are the muslim-radicals who have been given an opportunity to strengthen the hate towards the western world within their followings. The rest of us, normal inhabitants of the western world, as well as the non-radical muslims who don’t condemn the reactions to the printing of the drawings (which is the vast majority of the muslims in this world), we all lose. Because all of this has made the world just a tad bit more dangerous and unstable, if that’s possible at all.
