The only positive thing about that race was the split. Absolute clown show!! To top it all off, shoe lace came undone just after the 6 km marker, so I literally had to stop and tie my shoe 😂😂😂 Loosened up after seeing my family cheering on me around 7.5 km. Decent. Targeted 4:00/km floats and 3:45/km on's, with the aim of increasing the pace throughout and hopefully pass the half marathon around 1h20m low, which is around goal marathon pace at this point. Felt good, and ran the on's slightly faster. Forgot to activate Stryd for distance, so GPS is bonkers on the clockwise laps with watch on the outside arm. Passed the half marathon mark at 1:19:40. Ever so slightly faster than PB pace. Average pace 4:00 for the floats, 3:40 for on the on's. Is it on?! If this was three weeks out, and I could hold that pace alone in training for another 3-4 km, I'd feel quite confident. At this point, I'll give it a 15% chance. Two weeks! One more workout, and a 10k race on Saturday to go before the job is done.

First 19 km on a road loop, slightly undulating at around 4 min/km, including some drink breaks. Last 7 km on the track at around marathon PB pace, just under 3:50 min/km. Good workout, showing that fitness is on the up. That said, honest and realistic assessment is that a PB is probably out of reach in Berlin. Legs just lacking the conditioning of those 3-4 very important long runs with sustained effort at marathon pace. All of that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a go though! Hard work tonight! Felt comfortably uncomfortable for the first half or so, but then it started to get tough. Need to eat more on these days. Running on fumes the last three or four kilometres. Got through it as planned, and with 31 km in total for the day. All told a good day of marathon training.
